Description

My garlic fry bread is crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The perfect addition to any meal.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Vegetable Oil
  • 4-½ cups White Flour Plus More As Needed
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Parsley Flakes
  • 1 Tablespoon Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1-½ cup Water
  • ½ cups Milk
  • 3 cups Vegetable Oil
  • 4-½ cups White Flour Plus More As Needed
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Parsley Flakes
  • 1 Tablespoon Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1-½ cup Water
  • ½ cups Milk

Preparation

Heat the oil in a heavy pan to 375 F.

Mix the flour, baking powder, garlic salt, parsley flakes, and red pepper flakes in a large mixing bowl. Add the water and milk and mix to make a soft dough.

Turn the dough out onto a floured counter top. Knead, using more flour as necessary, until the dough is smooth and holds together.

Divide the dough into 6 pieces and shape each into a 5 or 6 inch round with a small hole in the center.

Carefully place one of the dough rounds into the hot oil. Cook for two or three minutes, until golden on the bottom, then flip and cook until golden on the other side as well, about 5 to 6 minutes total cooking time. Remove the cooked bread using a spatula or kitchen spider. Drain on paper towels before serving. Repeat frying the rest.

This recipe was adapted from the Dining on a Dime Cookbook.
